Incorporating Spatial Structures in Ecological Inference: An Information Theory Approach

چکیده

This paper introduces an Information Theory-based method for modeling economic aggregates and estimating their sub-group (sub-area) decomposition when no individual or sub-group data are available. This method offers a flexible framework for modeling the underlying variation in sub-group indicators, by addressing the spatial dependency problem. A basic ecological inference problem, which allows for spatial heterogeneity and dependence, is presented with the aim of first estimating the model at the aggregate level, and then of employing the estimated coefficients to obtain the sub-group level indicators.

Ecological Inference Incorporating Spatial Dependence

Ecological inference for a series of 2 × 2 tables suffers from an inherent lack of identifiability. Any attempt at a solution to this inferential problem must either (a) incorporate additional information or (b) make assumptions. Without further information and given the data in the margins alone, critical assumptions, such as that of no contextual effects, remain untestable . This suggests a s...

Assessment and Spatial Planning of Landscape Ecological Connectivity for Biodiversity Management (Case Study: Qazvin Province)

Habitat and ecosystem fragmentation and, consequently, the loss of landscape connectivity are major causes of biodiversity destruction, leading to disruption of material, energy, and information flow at the landscape scale. Given the importance of this issue, the current study aimed to evaluate the ecological connectivity and spatial planning of Qazvin Province, in order to re-establish and pro...

استفاده از تئوری مدارهای الکتریکی جهت شناسایی کریدورهای مهاجرتی بین پناهگاه‌های حیات وحش موته و قمشلو در استان اصفهان

Modeling of ecological connectivity across landscape is important for understanding a wide range of ecological processes. Modeling ecological connectivity between habitats and incorporating these models into conservation planning require quantifying the effect of spatial patterns of landscape on the degree of habitats connectivity. Recently, concepts from electrical circuit theory have been ad...

Spatial Pattern and Characteristic of Tree-fall Gaps to Approach Ecological Forestry in Northern Iran

Gaps created by falling trees (tree-fall gaps) are a natural disturbance in forest ecosystems. Understanding scale, pattern and the effect of gaps on regeneration is important to current and future forest management. The aim of this study was to determine the size, shape and the spatial pattern of tree-fall gaps and of associated regeneration. This study was carried out in three parcels (No.15,...

Study of Spatial Pattern of Tuberculosis by Geographical Information System in Kerman Province, 2011-2016: An Ecological Study

Background and Objectives: Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease that more than 95% of its cases and the death caused by it occurs in low and middle income countries. Nowadays Geographical Information System (GIS) software is one of the most useful epidemiologic devices for identifying geographic areas and high risk population for infection by TB. This study was performed in Kerman, Ira...
